Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) Management Board, participated in a visit by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, to the newly constructed international terminal at Almaty Airport. The EDB was among the project lenders in a syndicate with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the German Investment Corporation (DEG).

Stanislav Chuyev, Senior Analyst at the Centre for Sector Analysis, Directorate of Research, Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), delivered a presentation at the CAREC Regional Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Forum. In his presentation titled “Opportunities for International Financial Institutions in Ensuring the Availability of Water and Sanitation in Central Asia,” Stanislav Chuyev emphasised the significant role of international financial institutions (IFIs) in addressing critical WASH issues in the region and announced an upcoming publication by the EDB research department on the challenges associated with water quality and drinking water supply in the region.

On 21 May, two agreements were signed in Bishkek to build and maintain a bypass road around Uzgen using a public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism. This project aims to develop road infrastructure in the Uzgen District, Osh Region, and advance the nation’s transport sector. The agreements were signed by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), a consortium comprising Tez Zhol as the lead partner and Zhagalmai, and DemirBank.

On 21 May, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Electric Stations signed a technical assistance agreement for the purchase of equipment for the Bishkek combined heat and power plant (CHPP). This project, financed by the EDB Technical Assistance Fund (TAF), aims to address the consequences of an accident that occurred at the plant on 2 February 2024.

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Bishkek Solar have signed a cooperation agreement to finance the construction of a 300 MW photovoltaic power station in Toru-Aigyr village, Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyz Republic. The signing ceremony took place on 21 May in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), the Financial Credit Fund under the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic (FCF), the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) and the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange (KSE) have signed a letter of intent to implement a technical assistance project aimed at modernising the stock exchange in Kyrgyzstan. The document was signed by Eldiyar Doolbekov, Chairman of the FCF; Denis Ilin, Senior Managing Director at the EDB; Oleg Kudyakov, Deputy Chairman of the Board at the RKDF; and Medetbek Nazaraliev, President of KSE.
