Construction of a 90 MW wind warm is launched in Azov District, Rostov Region, with financing from the EDB
Moscow, 23 May 2019. Enel Russia began to construct a 90 MW wind farm in Azov District, Rostov Region. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned in 2020. The project is being financed by a long-term loan extended by the EDB to Enel Rus Wind Azov (Enel Russia’s 100% subsidiary) in November 2018.
The ground-breaking ceremony at the Azov wind farm was attended by Enel Russia’s General Director Carlo Palasciano Villamagna, Governor of Rostov Region Vasily Golubev, Italy’s Ambassador to Russia Pasquale Terracciano, and representatives of the EDB.
The wind farm can generate around 300 GWh per year, avoiding carbon emissions of about 260,000 tonnes. It will comprise 26 windmills and occupy an area of 133 hectares.
The Azov wind farm is the first renewable energy facility in the region and Enel Group’s first renewable energy project in Russia. It will be constructed by Enel Green Power, Enel Group’s company that develops and operates renewable energy facilities worldwide. Siemens Gamesa will localise equipment for Enel Russia’s wind farm.
According to Russia’s localisation requirements, 65% of the equipment for the facility (including construction and installation) will be manufactured in Russia. The localised manufacture of farm components is expected to advance high-tech production in Russia, which, in turn, will boost the development of renewable energy sources in Russia and other Bank’s member states.
